OUR HISTORY

The Episcopal Diocese of San Diego saw an opportunity to expand the Episcopal Church in South Carlsbad in the early 1980’s. With the sponsorship of St. Michael’s By-the-Sea, one of Carlsbad’s oldest churches, a nucleus of its members planted Holy Cross. Our first worship was held in a community center on November 30, 1986.

Our history over the years has included ups and downs, several different facilities, and space-sharing with two Jewish congregations. We have been blessed with both of these inter-faith partnerships as they have helped both faith communities to grow.

Our journey over the years has helped Holy Cross build on its determination to be an inclusive church that lives into its brand Open Minds, Open Arms. Through its history, filled with both elation and disappointment, God’s grace has abounded. The congregation seeks new members who are looking for an inclusive community of faith in which to belong and serve the world, as they work, by God’s grace
